Esra Akgemci

Esra Akgemci is an Associate Professor of International Relations at Selçuk University, Turkey.
She received her BA in Economics from Hacettepe University, Turkey, and her MA and PhD in International Relations from Ankara University, Turkey. She has conducted research as a visiting researcher at the Center for Latin American Studies at the University of Florida in the United States, the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) in Mexico, the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) in Brazil, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC/CEPAL) in Chile.
Her research interests include Latin American Studies, International Political Economy, Extractivism and Political Ecology, Ecofeminist and Decolonial Theory, and Gender and Foreign Policy. She has published articles on these topics in various academic journals. She is also a co-editor of Dünyanın Ters Köşesi Latin Amerika: Tarih, Toplum, Kültür [Latin America, the Other Side of the World: History, Society, Culture] (İletişim, 2020). Since 2022, she has been a columnist for the Turkish news platform T24, writing on contemporary political developments, culture, and the arts in Latin America.
