Oswaldo E. do Amaral

Oswaldo E. do Amaral is Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and a researcher at the university’s Centre for Public Opinion Studies (Cesop). In recent years, his research has focused on political and electoral behaviour and levels of support for democracy in Brazil and Latin America, particularly in the context of the rise of the radical right in the region.

Before turning to research on political behaviour, he studied the organisation of political parties—particularly Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT)—and the configuration of the Brazilian party system.

During his time at the Latin American Centre, he will conduct research on the factors shaping the position issues politicised by the populist radical right in Latin America, as well as its forms of political mobilisation.

Amaral has also been a visiting professor at the University of Salamanca and a visiting researcher at the universities of Oxford, Notre Dame and Sorbonne Nouvelle.
