Dr Felipe Krause, Head of the Brazilian Studies Programme and Departmental Lecturer in Latin American Studies recently appeared on France 24 commenting on the results of the 2026 Brazilian elections.

Dr Krause discusses the surprise result in the first round of the presidential elections which saw Flávio Bolsonaro take the lead over incumbent Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. He explains that the result reflects a political landscape that has become increasingly polarised, revealing a consolidation on the Brazilian right. Dr Krause explores what this could mean for Brazil, and internationally ahead of the run-off on 25 October, and reflects more broadly on the wider general election results, which saw significant gains for the right.
